Colorado Vacation

We just returned from a week long vacation to Colorado.   We combined our summer vacation with my running of the Leadville Heavy Half Marathon.   We had an awesome time and kept very busy, of course!!

Kason all excited to begin our Colorado adventure

The girls getting their first good look at the mountains

Kaelen making snowballs in Rocky Mountain National Park

We were lucky to see some large elk

This is the house we rented in Silverthorne, it had plenty of space for us

The view off the deck

We took the Breckenridge gondola up to the top of their skiing area

At the top the kids enjoyed some activities including pony rides

Here's a video of the pony rides.

And they had an alpine slide that the kids really enjoyed.

We went rafting down the Colorado River

The kids had a great time.  It was mostly smooth with a few rapids.

The scenery was beautiful

Kamryn really enjoyed paddling the raft

After rafting we walked through Vail, it was very nice.

Pretty Kamryn posing by a stream

We found a Pirate Ship Park that everyone enjoyed.

A large fox was living right next to our condo.  We only saw this one once but we saw several other foxes.

We visited the Children's Museum in Denver, Kason and Kamryn both loved the retired fire truck.

Kamryn climbing UP the fire pole.  I think she is ready to do CrossFit with me!

They had a nice area for kids to try out real tools

Kamryn loved the bubble room

Making giant bubbles

Both girls painted a picture

Kaelen liked the dress-up/dance area

We went to the Denver Aquarium and the kids liked the mermaids!

Kamryn is still talking about the mermaid that kissed her

The girls even got a picture with the mermaids

And so did Nancy and I!!

Everyone showing off their tattoos

Kamryn posing with Dudley and Nancy during our big hike

Kaelen of course needed a huge walking stick

Kason was a trooper on the 45 minute hike up the mountain

We walked across a nice wooden bridge

We went on the Georgetown Railway, everyone loved the experience

There was some beautiful scenery along the way

Kason of course loves everything about trains

We also stopped at Elitch Gardens in Denver one late afternoon

Everyone had a nice time riding the low-key rides in the kids' area

I think the bumper cars were a favorite.
Here's a video of them riding the Bumper Cars

All of them really liked the small roller coaster

We also went on the Cog Railway up Pike's Peak

Kason was happy with another train ride

We saw the smoke from the large Waldo Canyon Fire burning near Colorado Springs

It was a chilly 46 degrees on top of Pike's Peak!

A rare family picture!

Kason and Papa enjoying the ride down the mountain

We saw a few sheep also on the way down

Here I am right before starting the Leadville Heavy Half Marathon.

This was the trail!  Very rocky!

There was some beautiful scenery along the way

The incline was incredible up to the peak!

Kind of treacherous!

Here I am at the top!

Mosquito Pass 13,185 ft

Breathtaking!
Almost finished!

Crossing the finish line at 3:33!
Here's a video of my finish.
Very happy with my time

Definitely earned that medal!

Enjoying some post-race beer brewed in Longmont, Colorado
