We spent Thanksgiving Day at Kevin and Monica's. Makes it very easy for us when we only have to drive across town to their house. We had a good time seeing everyone, watching the Patriots beat the Lions and ate lots of good food including my mom's apple pie and Monica's mom's brownies. Kaelen was on the go all day. She had a great time playing with (or bossing around) Uncle Kent. She also loved playing hide and go seek and freeze tag with the BIG kids (Zane, Nate, Evan, and Erin). Kamryn & Kason did great too and went strong all day without naps.
On Friday, Kaelen, the Moms (my mom, Jeff's mom, and Monica's mom), and I went on our annual trip to the craft sale in Rock Island, Illinois, to Isabel Bloom, and to lunch. We missed Monica this year as she and Kevin left Friday morning to take Zane back to college at University of Minnesota. Kaelen enjoyed the craft sale more this year than last year and even got a new Barbie with a very fancy dress. After Kaelen and I got home, we packed up and left again with Jeff, Kamryn and Kason to head to Coral Ridge Mall to see Santa Claus. We met Grandma & Grandpa Tjebkes there and also ate supper and did some quick shopping. I was surprised that we did not have to pay for any pictures with Santa. They took pictures for us with our camera at no charge. Wow- Santa Claus is still free! After we took Kamryn & Kason to see Santa, Kaelen told Grandma that she could probably do that also with her dad. And sure enough she was right! This is the first picture we have of her and Santa since she was four months old.
Saturday, Kaelen had a special date with Jeff. They went to see the play "Jack Frost" at Circa 21 in Rock Island, Illinois. Kaelen said the play was funny! They even had a special lunch at Culver's (our family favorite) afterwards. That afternoon, we decorated our little Christmas tree. Kamryn loves the lights and Kason went right for the car ornament we have. Needless to say, I did not put any of my fragile ornaments out especially as the ornaments we do have on it have all been moved at least three times so far.
Sunday, we decorated a Gingerbread House. Yes, you are reading this correctly clean, neat freak me did a big, messy project like that! The kids loved it so it was worth it. Jeff got the house structure in place, Kaelen was the main decorator, Kamryn sampled the frosting, and Kason tried to eat everything off the Gingerbread House. He was eating the gumdrops off the roof as fast as we could put them on. I think this will become an annual tradition! Spent the rest of Sunday cleaning up the house and getting ready for the upcoming week. Kaelen went to Grandma & Grandpa Tjebkes' for a while in the afternoon. Then Jeff, Kamryn, Kason, and I met the three of them for dinner at Red Robin. Jeff and I both love their Gingerbread Shakes. Yes, they were just as good as we remembered.
