Catching up a little bit here. Last Sunday, Jeff and Kaelen went to the HNI Family Picnic for both Jeff's and my work. I stayed home with Kamryn & Kason since it was so hot and humid. We are really anxious for nice Fall weather so we can all play outside. They had an awesome time at the picnic. The highlight for Kaelen was riding Pixie the horse (there were ponies there but Kaelen went right for the horse!). Brave, No Fear Kaelen also loved the steep slides.
This Friday was the Kid's Watermelon Stampede- running race. Kaelen was so excited to run fast but unfortunately it was storming at the race start time so the race was cancelled. As a consolation on our way to dinner at Port City Underground we stopped at the Central Middle School track so Jeff and Kaelen could run one time around the track. She sprinted at times and this made her much happier as she was very upset about no race. Saturday, I ran in the big kids' Watermelon Stampede 5K. I have not done that race since Kaelen was born. It was a great race. I was very happy with my time- 21:48 and ended up with a medal and a watermelon! After the race, I took Kamryn to get her haircut. This was the first time she did not scream while getting her haircut. She did great. She likes to put her hand in her hair and say "Pretty". Then Jeff and I did a swap of kids in the parking lot (I have a feeling we will have thousands of these over the next 10-15 years) and Kaelen and I went to her friend Nolan's 4th Birthday Party at Pizza Ranch. Kaelen and Nolan have been together since they were 8 weeks old. We enjoyed his Toy Story themed party.
After all that it was time to get ready for Kaelen, Kamryn, and Kason's combined birthday party at Happy Joe's in Muscatine. Kamryn & Kason will turn two on September 7 so we split the difference with their and Kaelen's birthday (August 7). We enjoyed games, pizza, and 3 cakes! The kids had a fun time and it was great to see everyone. In attendance was- Grandma & Grandpa Tjebkes, Uncle Chris & Aunt Melissa, Grandma & Grandpa Halstead, Uncle Kevin & Aunt Monica, Uncle Kent, Cousins Zane & Nate, and friends Don, Lynn, Evan, & Erin Kelly. Thanks everyone for coming! This was by far the easiest party we have ever done with Happy Joe's doing the cooking and cleaning.
